How to be more productive

Unfortunately, we have only 24 hours available in one day. Sometimes it looks like some people have twice as much time because they succeed in doing so much more in one day. There is no better way of achieving your personal objectives than finding ways to manage your time more effectively. The trick, however, is not to work longer or harder but rather to be more productive.

Here are a few hints to become more productive:

  1. Do not touch the same thing twice.

Procrastination certainly is a major time waster. Do not postpone a task meaning to pay attention to it at a later stage. When something lands on your table, you have to make one of three choices: deal with it, delegate it, or delete it.

  1. Tackle unpleasant tasks first.

A good idea is to first tackle tasks you are not looking forward to do. In this way you will sooner get to doing tasks that inspire you and make you excited.

  1. Guard against the domination of urgent tasks.

Urgent tasks requiring immediate attention tend to keep you away from really important matters. Sometimes it is necessary to put out fires, but guard against fires that keep you away from important matters and affect your work performance.

  1. Say no.

No is a powerful word. When it is time to say no, do not say something like “I don’t think I will be able.” By saying no you show that you are dedicated to your present tasks.

  1. Beware of multitasking.

Multitasking wastes a lot of time and also decreases productivity. To ensure you get to all your tasks it is important to do one thing at a time so that your attention is not diverted from your present task.
